Our Story

Founded on a Conviction That Africa Must Lead Its Own Digital Transformation

Ham Technological Centre was founded with a clear-eyed understanding that Africa’s technology future cannot be outsourced. As artificial intelligence reshapes economies, governance systems, and social structures worldwide, the continent needed a dedicated institution to ensure that Africa’s interests, values, and capacities were at the centre of that transformation.

We began as a research and policy think tank and have grown into a multi-programme institution — running youth technology education, convening continental policy dialogues, incubating startups, and producing research that informs government decisions across Africa.

Today, HTC operates across six strategic pillars, with programmes in over 30 African countries and partnerships with governments, international organisations, leading universities, and major corporations.

Our Mission

To accelerate Africa’s digital transformation by building governance frameworks, developing technology talent, advancing research, and fostering innovation ecosystems that are African-led, inclusive, and globally competitive.

Our Vision

An Africa where every nation has the governance capacity, technical talent, and innovation infrastructure to harness emerging technologies for the benefit of its citizens — and where African institutions help shape the global rules of the digital age.

Our Values

Principles That Guide Everything We Do

African-Led

We believe Africa's digital future must be defined by Africans. Our leadership, research, and programmes centre African voices, contexts, and ambitions.

Evidence-Based

Every programme and policy position we advance is grounded in rigorous research, data, and lived realities across the continent.

Collaborative

We convene and connect — governments, academia, industry, and civil society — because no single institution can transform a continent alone.

Pan-African

Our mandate spans the continent. We think regionally and act across borders, building bridges between Africa's 54 nations.

Excellence

We hold ourselves to global standards of intellectual rigour, institutional governance, and programme delivery.

Long-Term Vision

Our work is measured in decades, not quarters. We plant seeds of capability, governance, and talent that will bear fruit for generations.

Leadership

The Team Behind HTC's Impact

Our leadership team brings together decades of expertise in technology policy, research, education, and institutional development.
